This manor recieved its name from the previous owner, the late Wallace Gumsworth. Wallace was the laughing stock of Gilmmerbrook, a raving lunitic according to most residents. He claimed he saw people disapear before his very eyes, objects levitate, and that he was being watched by monsters. The only explanation was the existence of magic.
