Insula was a home for the poor bourgeoisie in the Roman Empire. The poor residents in a Roman city lived in the insulae that were surrounded on four sides by narrow streets and alleys.The insulae can be compared to apartment buildings, they had three, four or five floors and were about twenty meters high at the time of August.
