In the 'Low Country' of the Southern U.S. there is the historic city of Charleston, A common style of house seen there is called "Charleston Single" due to the narrowly laid out lots in the city. Although not a part of the earliest single houses, later buildings had two- and three-story porches, known locally as piazzas, added.
