Davy Jones was a great man until he fell in love with the sea goddess Calypso. He was given the Flying Dutchman as well as the task of ferrying souls who died at sea. Due to that love he agreed to set foot on land every 10 years so he could be with her, but she was nowhere to be found. Heartbroken and enraged he plotted to tear the rule of the sea away from her and imprisoned her in human form.
