Chien-Lin was the youngest of 6 children raised by her father & stepmother. The only one biologically related to her father, she was cut off from the family alongside him by her stepmother's parents, who'd chosen a wealthy suitor for her. Destitute, the two made their life on the road, & her anger at her step-family was channelled into bodily discipline.
