Turnspit dog
A now extinct breed, the Turnspit dog existed in the 1800s and was depicted in a few drawings in North and South Wales. As the name suggests, the breed was bred to turn food on a spit over an open flame. The breed is described as terrier related, sporting a dark dusty grey coat sometimes splotched with black, short legs, a long body, with a white stripe on the snout. Queen Victoria kept retired working Turnspit dogs as companion dogs. #extinct #ancient #breed #small #working #turnspit #dog
