The Shar-Pei was bred in ancient China. The breed almost went extinct, but was brought back by dedicated breeders. The breed now features much more prominant wrinkles for the show ring. The wrinkles may look cute, but they must be kept clean regularly to prevent skin infections, and the breed may not be ideal for first time dog owners.
