In his youth, Mateo modeled his personality after two things: sports and his neglectful father's money. He hung out with destined-to-be frat boys and had the emotional sensitivity of... well... he didn't really have any. After the death of his mother, however, Mateo turned a new leaf. He cut ties with his father (and his bank account) to live as his true self.
