Originating in Britain during the mid-1800s at the behest of gamekeepers to dissuade poachers from prowling their estates, they bred the Mastiff for its size together with the Old English Bulldog for its ferocity in order to create a superlative night guardian; genetic testing preformed sometime in the 1920s revealed an admixture of 60% Mastiff and 40% Bulldog.
