Medusa (Gorgo)
In Greek mythology Medusa was a monster with snakes for hair. In one version of the story she was born a beautiful girl, but after Poseidon *took her* in the temple of Athene, the godess changed her as a punishment. She turned men into stone with her gaze. Perseus defeated her and took her head.
