Queen Nanny was a bada$$! Some facts - Ghana native, she and other enslaved people sought refuge from a brutal slave society in the mountains of Jamaica, where together they established a maroon community. In 1720, Nanny had become the leader of a Maroon settlement, Nanny Town. Nanny trained her warriors in the art of guerilla warfare. It is said she helped over a 1000 slaves to freedom.
