Amenhotep IV was a pharaoh of the 18th dynasty, ruling from approximately 1350 to 1335 BC. As prophet of his god Aten he obsessively reformed his native religion and culture. For this, later generations sook to erase his name from all records. But the beauty excavated at Tell el-Amarna prevails, and so do the legends surrounding his son Tutankhamen, and his wife Nefertiti.
