Mina was a school teacher earning her own money in a time when it was rare for women to work. After her fiance escaped from Dracula's castle she travelled to Budapest to help him recover. Then the pair returned to England married. Learning Dracula killed her best friend she joins Van Helsing in attempting to destroy the Count.
