One of my favorite breeds, the Curly Coated Retriever is thought to have been created by mixing now-extinct breeds of waterdog. The breed was popular in New Zealand, and Australia. Despite being bred for water, they also make good guard dogs. Some can be aloof or wary of strangers, but a well socialized and carefully bred Curly should be loyal, affectionate but not clingy to the family.
