The Rottweiler was thought to be created by the ancient Romans for a variety of work including guarding livestock, property. They have also been used as gladiators, butcher's dogs in Germany, and for personal protection and to take down perpetrators. After some very unfortunate and high profile incidents, they gained a bad reputation, especially so in the 80s to the early 2000s.
