Frontiersmen began breeding hounds together to create a raccoon hunting dog, creating the dog that would be known as the Black and Tan Coonhound in the 1940s. The Black and Tan can be wary of strangers, but tends to be loyal to their owner. As with most hounds, they tend to be stubborn, prey, and scent driven, and prone to wander lust.
