When he first leaves the ocean and its brine, the merman Kai ‘borrows’ from a clothesline. He dresses in any ‘gifts’ which fit his frame, but he has no fashion sense and less shame. Colors like that of a coral reef draw his eye: his wild mishmash of an outfit is far from fly. Legs are a new and wondrous strangeness, but his choice of lime green tights is a mess.
