The Fates or Moirai are a group of three weaving goddesses who assign destinies to mortals at birth. Each of them had a different task revealed by her name: Clotho (the Spinner) spun the thread of life, Lachesis (the Alloter) measured its alloted length and Atropos (the Inflexible) cut it off with her shears.
