Butch O'Neal is a cowboy/farmer who lives off the land and sells his produce and carpentery wares from his lot. His faithful collie 'Dog' was a stray that he reluctantly adopted one day while out in the fields. The two are very close but Butch respects Dog's freedom and wild nature, though Dog is extremely loyal to Butch...they're like kindred spirits.
